    TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome back to Trackside Tea, your go to for all the F1 drama, fashion, and flair.

Hi, |I'm Rebecca. And today, we're unpacking the sizzling action from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit De Barcelona, Catalunya. Did I just say that right? I think I just said that right.

    Sorry if I didn't, but I think I did.

This was a good race to watch. So much going on and so much to talk about. Drama, celebrities, Fernando Alonso, and, yeah, Max Verstappen. Awkward!

So let's start with a small bit of race recap and McLaren's dominance.

So spoiler alert, if you haven't seen any of this year's races, if you haven't, where have you been?

Oscar Piastri nabbed his 5th win of the season, which gave McLaren a one two finish alongside his teammate Lando Norris. Quite frankly to me, it looked like Oscar had a pretty flawless drive. He started on pole position, and he managed to carry on and win the race.

And it was quite a fair margin between him and Lando too, so, you know, good on Oscar. I am not a strategy person. I would make that clear. But this did seem to showcase McLaren's superior strategy with their tyre management in the crazy heat.

While we're on the track of heat, someone who well and truly lost their cool is Max Verstappen.

So a spot a sector three showdown here, which was truly chaotic for Max and a massive game changer.

I mean, he's known for his strong personality and willpower, but it seems one thing after another for Max in Spain. Stopping for one of his pit stops around lap 48, which already seemed a lot of pit stops for him. He came back onto the track from the pit lane with his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, right in front of him. Now he was a lap behind so needed to move aside so Max could get past, but didn't seem to move quite as quick as he probably should have done.

And Max was then caught up behind him and lost a bit of time. Number one strike for Max.

The next bit of bad luck was when Lando and Max were caught behind a little battle between Liam Lawson and Ollie Bearman as they were jostling for places in their own little race, costing Max more time and to shout out on the radio, "IDIOTS!"

It doesn't end there, folks. Poor Kimi Antonelli's trundled into the gravel with a mechanical failure, which caused the ever anticipated safety car. So a lot of people dropped into the pits with this opportunity as did Max, and he ended up on hard tyres apparently because it's the only ones he had left, and he was the only driver to use them, a little bit on the crazy side.

Max even said on the radio, "Why the have we **** have we? What is this tyre?" I would have thought it'd be...

    TRANSCRIPT:

Welcome back to Trackside Tea, the formula one podcast where you focus on the drama, the fashion, and the flare without getting bogged down in technical jargon.

I'm Rebecca, and today we're diving into the glitz and the glitches of the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, dramas, recaps, and my overall thoughts.

So the glamour and the grind. The jewel in the F1 crown where the yachts are as big as some of the egos and the overtakes are as rare as a quiet team radio.

This year, there was a change.

We're not into doing strategies too much on here, but they had a mandatory two pit stop strategy aimed at spicing things up. Did it work? Well, let's just say the strategy seemed far more exciting than the actual on track action.

For those who don't know, Monaco is notorious for no overtaking in the race. There aren't many places to overtake. It is very difficult. So really, the race is run on a Saturday at qualifying as there's really no changing unless someone has a crash, a mechanical fault mainly, or something silly happens.

But the race recap. Now every week, we do predictions on the F1 app. We've got a little league going on and everything, But you have to lock them in before qualifying.

And one of the questions for Monaco was, will we see a brand new winner this year? I said yes. And lo and behold, Lando Norris came to fruition and managed it. He started from pole and managed to keep his cool under pressure securing his ever Monaco win. Charles Leclerc, who won last year, gave it his all in front of his home crowd, but unfortunately came 2nd. I say unfortunately, but it's still podium and it's still good points, but, obviously, not the win he had the year before. And then Oscar Piastri finished off the podium trio, though a slow pit stop probably cost him the chance to get up higher.

So with sector three showdown, the drama unfolds. With a new rule of having a two pit stop, Max Verstappen tried an alternative way of doing it, staying out longer than most. But, unfortunately, it didn't pay off because he had to do it very late, and everybody else had already done theirs. So he managed to get up to 1st place, and he eventually pitted on the penultimate lap, dropping him from 1st to 4th at the last hurdle, giving the 1st place to Lando.

It was for at least one team a very strategic race. Williams were determined to stay in the points and were very good at holding the Mercedes driver, George Russell, back. It was even said afterwards that during the race, James Vowles from Williams messaged Toto Wolff from Mercedes, apologising for the way they were being forced to race. In the end, George Russell got so fed up with it, he received a penalty for cutting the chicane while overtaking Alex Albon of Williams and, unfortunately,...

    Transcript:

Hey. Hey. And welcome to episode 1.

Oh, actually, it's not the episode 1. It's actually episode zero.

So hey. Hey. And welcome to episode zero of Trackside Tea, the podcast for formula one fans who love the sport, the chaos, the characters, and the drama, but who may not speak fluent telemetry. And, honestly, that's totally fine here.

I'm Rebecca, and I've been a fan of F1 for quite a while now.

I used to watch it with my parents when I was younger, and now I'm well and truly back into it. Not because I know everything about pit strategies or aerodynamics, but because I love the feeling of watching a race weekend. The build up, the unexpected plot twists, the wild crashes, the emotional wins, and, yes, sometimes just the pure entertainment of the whole circus that is Formula one.

I started Trackside Tea because I wanted to create a space where it's okay to not know every rule or remember the name of every race engineer. If you've ever felt a bit intimidated by F1 podcasts or online fan spaces that get super serious or hyper technical, this one's for you.

Each week, I'll be recapping the latest races with a big focus on vibe, the moments, and the people. No need to be a strategist or a diehard fan from the nineties to hang out here. Now I say the nineties because that's when I used to watch it, but clearly, whatever decade. Whatever decade. We'll talk about what happened, who made a bold move, who got totally stitched up, and what made us laugh, scream, or want to flip a table.

I'll also cover those little off track gems that I see along the way, funny moments, iconic outfits, basically the stuff that makes F1 more than just racing. Segments you can expect include things like Race Recaps minus the jargon, Sector Three Showdown where we're breaking down the most chaotic of game changing moments, Fan Flags where we shout out underrated drives, drivers, best crowd signs, or even just a meme that deserves a trophy. Now when it comes to memes, I'm not very up on memes, so I'm afraid that will be something that I would be having to ask my kids to help me out with. Virtual Safety Tea, a more relaxed wrap up where I share what I've loved that weekend on or off the track. And, of course, we'll be making some totally unscientific, possibly cursed predictions for the next race.

Sometimes it'll just be me. Sometimes I might have a guest and sometimes it'll be me screaming into the void after a race that's broke my heart or wound me up.

I created the show because I believe F1 should feel accessible. Whether you're a new fan, a casual viewer, or someone who only knows, "oh, that team with the red car, you know the ones." You can support more than one driver. You can learn as you go. You can just show up and enjoy it. That's what this podcast is here for. So if that sounds like your kind of pit stop, I'd love for you to hit subscribe, leave a rating if...
