  • HiddenTrack #237 NVM (Austin Mariano)
    2025/02/06

Inspired by bands like The Cure, Van Halen, Smashing Pumpkins, and a slew of emo bands from the mid-2000, NVM pulls influence from old-school 80s rock, shoegaze, and hardcore to form a sound described as "nostalgic" without planting its feet firmly in any genre.

  • HiddenTrack #235 LOOSE CHOIR (Tatton White)
    2025/01/23

Sacramento, California’s LOOSE CHOIR bend the trends of indie/alt-rock with punchy punk flourishes and moody folk earholes, the result of which is a blast of "newstalgia" and new noise in equal measure. Formed in 2022 by Rae Boys (vocals), Tatton White (guitar, bass) and Noah G. Prado (drums), the band took their time fleshing out the songs that comprise Shy Side, their debut full-length. The patience paid off, as Loose Choir’s collaborative strengths yielded a formidable collection of arresting tracks brimming with poise and urgency.
Thriving in the aural limbo between alt-folk and the often urgent sonic real estate of guitar-forward mid-’00s underground rock, Loose Choir vacillates its dynamism to startling results. Boys’ affecting vocals slice like sunrise over a rough sea; the tandem of Prado and White’s well-rounded chemistry—having performed for years in Northern California punk band The Red Robot—pushes and pulls the songs’ bones apart to lay bare their emotive underbellies.

  • HiddenTrack #234 SAINT JUDAS (Braden Wahl)
    2025/01/16

Singer/songwriter Braden Wahl wrote and recorded a terrible year in response to his recent relapse into a volatile mental state after his life was completely uprooted from moving across the country to Florida. While fighting episodes of depression and anxiety, the singer created these songs with raw honesty in hopes to show other people struggling with similar battles that they’re not alone. The EP is heavily influenced by the calming tones of indie folk while also slipping into the mesmeric energy of midwest emo and pop punk.

  • HiddenTrack #230 SIX GOING ON SEVEN / ATTEMPT SURVIVORS (Joshua English)
    2024/12/19

SIX GOING ON SEVEN was and is a highly influential band that helped define a genre that bridged the gap between hardcore influenced emo and indie-rock. With their complex bass, guitar harmonies and sincere vocals, they were a force to be reckoned with. Often referred to as a “band’s band”, Six Going on Seven came up alongside many of the household names we still discuss from the era: Jimmy Eat World, Hot Water Music, The Get Up Kids, sharing the stage with them and many others. Josh has continued creating music since SGOS ended, with an amazing array of solo albums and now onto his new band ATTEMPT SURVIVORS. Attempt Survivors is compromised of a who's who in the scene, guitarists Adam Marino and Matthew Kane, drummer Kyle Stevenson, and vocalist J. English of bands Saetia, Helmet, Six Going on Seven, and Errortype:11.
