    2024/12/19

Welcome back to the final episode of 2024 on the Got Your Back Podcast! And trust us, we’ve saved the best for last! This week, we’re hanging with the incredible Melisa (Mel) Macey – a total icon whose journey crosses industries and dives deep into cultural identity, neurodivergence, parenting, and trauma.

In this episode, Mel takes us through her extraordinary path, from fashion consulting to supporting high school special education, and now facilitating psychological care across Australian organisations. She’s done it all – and she’s here to share it all with us.

We'll hear about the interplay of navigating multiple minorities including gender and cultural identity. Mel’s journey through trauma, resilience, and healing is a powerful reminder that our past doesn’t define us. Her story is real, raw, and filled with wisdom that will make you rethink the power of community and connection.

  • Episode 8: ‘Vibes on Overdrive’ - ADHD, Big Emotions and RSDing all over the place
    2024/10/31

Welcome back everyone! Out of all the episodes we have released so far, this is not one you want to miss. In this episode, we dive deep into emotional dysregulation, which is something that lies at the core of ADHD alongside many other executive functioning challenges. It is not uncommon for ADHDers to be labelled as ‘sensitive’, ‘emotional’, ‘too much’ or as ‘going from 0 to 100’, with some ADHDers even being given additional diagnoses in attempt to explain why they present this way, all because emotional regulation and the way it presents in ADHDers is often not considered or well understood. We also deep dive into Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) and discuss some of the impacts this can have on all aspects of an ADHDers life, alongside research, and both our professional and personal opinions.

As always we are so open and committed to our listener base and ensuring that we discuss topics that are accessible, relatable and relevant to what our listeners want to hear. If you have any feedback, topic suggestions or things you want addressed, please get in touch with us on social media.

    2024/09/05

Today’s episode also introduces the concept of Intersectionality and we reflect on how the overlap of ADHD and gender identity, in combination with many impacts our experiences, identity, wellbeing and contributes to beliefs we’ve developed over time, and impact the way we navigate both the everyday and big life decisions.

We also explore how to start healing, including a general introduction of schema therapy, and how clarifying values and the role that society and intersectionality play in the ease of which we live an authentic life. Join us as we explore these topics and discuss how to bounce back with resilience and self-love. Don't forget to subscribe and leave us a review if you enjoy the episode!
