Series: Godly Wisdom for Gospel Living
Title: Let All Be Done Decently and in Order
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:20-40
Speaker: Pastor Ben Jennings
Date: August 3, 2025 (Sunday Morning Worship Service)
The way that we should participate in corporate worship in principle can be seen in how Paul commanded the Corinthian church to regulate 2 spiritual gifts when they came together.
Regulation #1- For tongues. (v. 20-28)
a. Maturity prioritized.
b. Tongues purpose.
c. Understanding prioritized.
d. Two to three at most.
e. Always interpreted.
Regulation #2- For prophesy. (v. 29-36)
a. Two or three at most.
b. Defer to the person hearing from the Lord.
c. One at a time.
d. Confirmed by others with that gift.
e. Lead by men.
3. Regulations Summarized.
a. Commanded by the Lord.
b. Prophecy prioritized over tongues.
c. Order, not chaos.
4 Principles for Our Church Today
1. We come together to understand God’s Word. (v.20-25)
2. We come together to be edified. (v.26-28)
3. We come together to worship God. (V.25, 29-33)
4. We come together to love each other, not ourselves. (v.28, 34-35, 1 Corinthians 13)
