Chevelle Franklyn is an esteemed artist with a music career spanning three
decades. She has travelled the world, performing in diverse countries such as South
Africa, the United Kingdom, The Middle East, Asia, Austria, Germany, Holland,
France, the US, Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Kenya.
Throughout her journey, Chevelle has collaborated with renowned artists such as
Donnie McClurkin, Israel Houghton, Micah Stampley, Phil Thompson, Nathaniel
Bassey, Lionel Petersen, and, With multiple awards under her belt, Chevelle's name
is synonymous with excellence.
Continuing her remarkable music career, Chevelle is preparing to release her latest
album, "South Wind Vol. 1." The album, recorded in South Africa, is a testament to
her devotion to worshipping God. It features guest artists from South Africa, including
the notable collaboration with Ntokozo Mbambo. Co-produced by Chevelle, Nqubeko
Mbatha, and Mojalefa Mjakes Thebe, the album showcases Chevelle's versatility as
she sings in Zulu, one of South Africa's widely spoken indigenous languages. The
lead single, "Go In Your Strength," written during an inspirational moment in South
Africa, was released in early 2020
Chevelle's musical journey began in her teenage years when she recorded her first
single, "Here I Am." As her career flourished, she achieved international recognition
through collaborations like Shabba Ranks' hit song, "Mr. Lover Man," and her own
reggae hit, "Dancehall Queen," featuring Beenie Man. A pivotal moment occurred in
1998 during a live concert when Chevelle decided to embrace her faith and transition
into exclusively recording gospel music. Breaking away from her secular contracts,
she dedicated her life to the Lord, leaving behind her international hit song,
"Dancehall Queen."
Chevelle has released successful albums such as "Joy" in 2001, “His Way” in 2005,
and "Set Time" in 2017. This year 2024 marks the release of her forthcoming album,
recorded in South Africa and featuring talented local artists.
Chevelle's impact as a gospel artist extends beyond her music. She has ministered
at notable events like 'The Experience' in Lagos, Nigeria, representing the Caribbean
among approximately 800,000 attendees arguably the largest Gospel concert in the
world. Festival of Life, London. Additionally, she has ministered at significant
gatherings hosted by notable pastors such as Bishop T D Jakes, Pastor Paul
Adefarasin, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, Pastor Agu Irukwu and Bishop John
Francis.
Her previous albums have garnered numerous accolades, including multiple
Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards, International Reggae & World Music
Awards (IRAWMA), and a Reggae Academy Award. She has also been recognized
at the Grammy Awards and London's African Gospel Music and Media Awards
(AGMMA). In 2018, Chevelle received the Album of the Year award at The Sterling
Gospel Music Awards in Jamaica for "Set Time."
