From Both Sides Of The Couch

  • サマリー

  • I am Dr. Laurie Bruce, a clinical psychologist and mindfulness coach. For the last 25 years, I have had the privilege of providing psychotherapy, consultation and supervision to thousands of clients and students. One of my greatest joys is providing psychological and emotional support to other healers: therapists, physicians, teachers and anyone who finds themselves in the position of caring for others. If you are a health care professional or caregiver, you know how demanding our jobs can be. We carry the weight of all of our clients’ pain, day in and day out. It is essential that caregivers take the time and effort to engage in self-care. Without the proper self-care tools, the chronic exposure to human suffering can be traumatic, impacting us personally and professionally. My greatest form of self-care is to engage in my own personal therapy. I have had the privilege of working with some gifted therapists over the years. My investment in my own therapy has been the single most important gift I have given myself and it helps me to be the best therapist, mother and friend that I can be. This podcast is for you if you are a health care professional, therapist or someone who gives so much to others that you have exhausted yourself. I am here to share wisdom that I have learned over the last two and a half decades from my clients, my supervisors and my own therapists. Join me for discussions on mindfulness, resilience, authenticity, radical acceptance, vulnerability, boundaries and so much more. Visit me at www.drlauriebruce.com

  • Finding The Extraordinary In The Ordinary
    2024/02/25

If you enjoyed this episode, it would mean the world to me if you would rate and write a review. Every review helps me to reach more people.

In this episode, Dr. Laurie Little shares insights on how we can discover the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary aspects of life and how this practice intertwines with mindfulness.

Dr. Little identifies common scenarios like being submerged in future-oriented thoughts filled with anxieties, stressing over to-do lists, or simply being 'in our heads,' which act as barriers to recognizing these extraordinary moments. This episode emphasizes that practicing mindfulness does not imply achieving a state of constant awareness, instead, it suggests increasing the frequency of mindful moments.

She shares three practical strategies to enhance mindfulness. These include acknowledging when our thoughts drift off towards the future, setting outside reminders or alarms, and finding an 'extraordinary buddy,' akin to a mindfulness accountability partner.
