Jesus: The Love You Cannot Escape

In this episode, the third in this series, I talk with Grant Eddy. He shares how the loss of a loved one led him down the path of spiritual understanding eventually discovering the inclusivity of Jesus, to becoming a Christian. We discuss how his faith and sexuality are intertwined, how initially he felt excluded from Christianity until finding an affirming church & discovering the true love of Jesus, how he finds it important to dialogue and feels called by Jesus to love all people, no matter what, and the scriptures he uses to combat an alternate Christian viewpoint.

Grant Eddy is a college student and part-time teacher Who Currently resides in the rogue Valley. Although born in Vacaville Oregon, He has lived in the rogue valley for most of his life and calls it his native home. Although he has his religious roots within Christianity, he did not grow up in a religious household and was not spiritual himself until recently. Through the loss of a loved one, a spiritual quest, and coming to terms with his own sexuality, he has found what he considers to be the love of Jesus. Grant now belongs to a movement that is trying to push for LGBTQ plus acceptance and affirmation within the Christian community and church. he plans on transferring to OSU fall of 2025 majoring in elementary education, Shortly after wanting to attend seminary. Grant is currently a member of the First United Methodist Church and wanted to share some resources in case anyone was experiencing discrimination or isolation within their communities:

  • FGH: I'm Queer & I Love Jesus: Jesus Had A Sausage Party
    2024/07/27

In this episode, I speak with my friend, Cole, who shares his journey of coming into himself, being true to his sexuality, finding religion, a home with Jesus, & an affirming church. How his faith helps him day to day, the differences between his walk and that of a more fundamentalist Christian worldview, and the message he wishes to give who those who are struggling.

This episode is the second in a very special series of the FanGirlHour. In preparation for the release of our short film, I Am Fine, in the fall, which highlights the struggle with lgtbqai in mainstream conservative Christianity, I will be interviewing several close, dear friends who will share their understanding of, relationship to Jesus, Christianity, religion or spirituality, their faith journeys, the struggles they have in recognizing their worth in God's eyes as a queer person, how they explain to others those “gotcha” verses in the Bible, all with the intent to “Reclaim & Redeem Jesus & Christianity” from a belief system that has co-opted for personal, subversive gain. Over the next several weeks, we will “fangirl for Jesus” in a series called “I am queer & I love Jesus.”

    From the Trevor Project:

LGBTQ young people are four times more likely to attempt suicide, and suicide remains the second leading cause of death among all young people in the U.S.

Just a reminder, from now until the end of July, our Trevor Project fundraiser, the Jesus <3 Queer merchandise on bonfire, which includes tees, pullovers, & hoodies, is 10% when you use the code PRIDE4FREEDOM: https://www.bonfire.com/jesus-lt3-queer/

In this first episode of this series, I chat with my good friend, Jacqueline Pollock, about her journey of faith & coming into her true self. We share her upbringing in a very conservative southern family & church, the betrayal she felt from her family which led her to leave, finding her chosen family from both religious and secular that helped her to find her peace, direction, and finally come out and live her truth.
