  • Ep 20 | The Role of Climate Litigation in Climate Justice
    2024/12/10
Climate litigation is a powerful tool for demanding accountability in the fight against the climate crisis.

In this episode, we explore how legal cases are becoming a force for justice, holding both corporations and governments responsible for their role in climate impacts. We are joined by Noah Walker Crawford, a research fellow at London School of Economics and advisor to Germanwatch, as well as Saúl Luciano Lliuya from Peru. We learn about the landmark Saúl vs. RWE case, where the Peruvian farmer and mountain guide sued the major German energy company RWE for the impacts climate change is having on the area where he lives and works. We explore the growing role of litigation in the fight for climate justice, the importance of the loss and damage debate, and the potential of legal action to reshape the future of climate action.

Germanwatch is an independent development, environmental, and human rights organisation. The organization advocates sustainable global development based on social equity, respect for nature, and economic stability.

Our guest Emeline Notari, Ecological Transition Financing Manager of Réseau Action Climat France, joins us to discuss whether France’s green policies and their implementation have truly lived up to expectations. We explore examples of expenditures that are harmful to the climate, people and nature, and discuss just solutions such as a truly green budget and reducing damaging subsidies.

Réseau Action Climat France is the French representative of the global (CAN International) and European (CAN Europe), focusing on developing alternative and ambitious measures to combat climate change and its impacts.

  • EP 18 | Turning the past into action
    2024/10/01
Civil society organisations, particularly climate and environmental groups, play a critical role in addressing climate change and benefiting society. However, like all organisations, they also leave an ecological footprint.

In this episode, we talk with Mattias Söderberg, Global Climate Lead at DanChurchAid, and explore their groundbreaking initiative to calculate their historical climate footprint and take responsibility for their greenhouse gas emissions over the past 100 years of operations. We hear about the motivations behind this effort, the challenges encountered, and the key findings. We also delve into the broader role of civil society in addressing the climate crisis and the importance of “walking the talk” when advocating for climate action.

DanChurchAid is a Danish humanitarian non-governmental organisation that has existed for more than 100 years and aims to strengthen the world’s poorest people in their struggle for a life in dignity.
