Is the story of Esther the first documented intersectional justice uprising? In this month’s episode, Don and Liam join the Saturday morning Torah study class at Liam’s Shul, where they curate a rousing liberation-themed discussion of the Book of Esther. After all, it is the season of Purim.

In the first of what Don and Liam hope will be more “live” shows of the season, Liam invites us to consider the justice-seeking implications in a story that turns on the combined efforts of a whole cast of outcast, marginalized, and vulnerable characters.

In the process, Liam offers us an enlightening look at ancient understandings of gender, including a look at the eight accepted gender classifications in Talmudic discussions.
