This special edition of the podcast features a conversation with St. John’s legends Lou Carnesecca and Jack Kaiser that has never previously been released. Recorded in 2020, Kaiser and Carnesecca, who passed away on November 30 at the age of 99, recall stories of their beginnings at St. John’s, including Carnesecca’s first game as head coach in 1965 and Kaiser’s first trip to the College World Series as a player in 1949.
Lou Carnesecca is an icon of New York City basketball, having served as head coach of the St. John's Red Storm for nearly 25 seasons and is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. During his tenure in Queens, Carnesecca guided St. John's to one Final Four (1985) and five BIG EAST Titles (1980, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1992).
Jack Kaiser, who passed away in 2022, dedicated parts of nine decades to St. John's University, beginning as a baseball player in the 1940s. He then coached the baseball program for 18 seasons where he amassed over 350 wins before serving as the St. John's Athletic Director from 1973 to 1995. During his tenure as Athletic Director, he was a key figure in the founding of the BIG EAST Conference.
