Well, here it is, the 2024 Retrospective, where we each give our Top 5 Favorite and Top 5 Worst genre films of the year that was 2024. We also have quite a few honorable mentions and runners up this year. This is always a blast for us.
When all was said and done all three of us were in general agreement with a great many others that 2024 was a great year for the horror genre particularly.
For fun, here were each of our Top 5 Favorite and Worst genre films the previous year, 2023: (as a reminder all three of us loved Godzilla Minus One, but only Jorge counted it in his Top 5 as a specific horror genre film)
Jacob:
Five Favorite: #1-When Evil Lurks, #2-Talk to Me, #3-Thanksgiving, #4-Infinity Pool, #5- Saw X
Five Worst: #1-Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, #2-The Exorcist: Believer, #3-Children of the Corn (2023), #4-Cocaine Shark, #5-Beaten to Death
Jorge:
Five Favorite: #1-Godzilla Minus One, #2-When Evil Lurks, #3-Talk to Me, #4-Infinity Pool, #5-Project Wolf Hunting (stateside release 2023 nerds)
Five Worst: #1-The Exorcist: Believer, #2-M3GAN "M threegan dude come on", #3-Knock at the Cabin, #4-The Mill, #5-The Pope's Exorcist (this dude didn't watch any movies)
Rhett:
Five Favorite: #1-When Evil Lurks, #2-Talk to Me, #3-Infinity Pool, #4-Thanksgiving, #5-Birth/Rebirth
Five Worst: #1-The Exorcist: Believer, #2-Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, #3-Children of the Corn (2023), #4-Insidious: The Red Door, #5-Knock at the Cabin
Runners Up for Worst (there's always so many): Pet Sematary Bloodlines, The Meg 2, The Nun 2, The Haunted Mansion, The Outwaters
Runners Up for Favorite: all of us loved Godzilla Minus One but Jacob and Rhett excluded it from Top 5 horror, Beau is Afraid and Poor Things (both "horror adjacent"), Big Shark, Saw X (for Rhett and Jorge, #5 for Jacob), Huesera The Bone Woman, Project Wolf Hunting (for Jacob and Rhett, #5 fave for Jorge), muthafuckin Slotherhouse
