Shalom, it’s a privilege to bring God’s word once again to you. Through this last couple of days, we have been looking at the wilderness journey of the Israelites and the truth and the wisdom that we can understand and learn so that when we go through our own wilderness experiences, we know what and how God would desire of us to do. Today, in our devotion, we are looking at how we need to stand still. When the Israelites found themselves trapped between the Red sea and the approaching Egyptian army, they were overwhelmed with fear. We can only imagine what their reactions would have been because their natural reactions, feeling that there is no way out with both sides being covered by danger. But in the midst of that despair, Moses reminded them to make a critical choice. He says to stand firm in faith in God. Let’s read that in Exodus chapter 14, verse 13, ‘Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.’ Moses said, do not be afraid, stand still, that is the essence of faith. It is not just a passive feeling but it is an active decision to rely on God no matter what the dangerous circumstance maybe. In our lives, difficult circumstances have a tendency to cause panic and fear and fear becomes that instinctive reaction but Moses reminded them to make a deliberate decision to stand still and that is the wisdom we can learn. No matter what the storm around is, we can stand still. We read in the earlier chapters that the Israelites actually had every reason to trust God. He had already showed His power through the plagues that Egypt had gone through just before their exodus. But again, in their moment of crises, they forgot what God had already done. Our faith should be rooted in who God is, in knowing that He is good, He is faithful no matter what. It is built on the evidence of the faithfulness of God. Many of us right now, can be or maybe going through those wilderness experiences. It could be a season of uncertainty, of waiting, of disappointment, a job loss, a financial struggle, a loss of a loved one, a tragic event etc. But whatever the situation may be, let’s draw courage right now and strength from knowing that we need to stand firm and see the hand of God leading us through that journey. You and I will see the Red sea also part. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word and the faith that this built in us. Just like Moses spoke to the Israelite’s and asked them to stand firm, no matter what our situation is right now, we stand firm in knowing you are a God who is faithful, who has helped us this far and you’re the one who will calm every storm and part every Red sea.
