  • Episode 4: The Importance of Inclusion with DJ Nicholson
    2022/10/11

Inclusion is a hot topic in the education world. Many schools will preach inclusion but very few are doing it in a meaningful, beneficial way. Join DJ Nicholson and me and we discuss our experiences with inclusion, the importance, and how DJ is helping teachers, parents, and schools navigate meaningful inclusion for children.

DJ Nicholson is an educational coach and consultant with a life-long passion for ensuring that children with disabilities and learning differences are engaged and supported in their educational environment.  Her passion for this work began in her childhood when she was on the elementary school playground.  DJ’s super powers include creating unique learning options for children, problem-solving for success, and building empowered learners.  When she is not engaged in her career passions, she is volunteering with a pug rescue group, mentoring young teachers, and doing yoga!

On this episode of the Cultivating Unique Minds Podcast, Jade talks legalities. As a parent, it is vital to know your rights and your child’s rights surrounding your child’s IEP. Jade has done extensive research and breaks down the laws under IDEA in a straightforward way so that you feel confident going into your child’s IEP meeting this fall. Knowing these laws and rights will help guide you to make educated decisions about your child’s plan this school year. As an educator, it is also crucial to be informed on these laws so that you understand important timelines, and so that you can answer questions that parents will have for you. • Episode Two: Behind the Scenes IEP Prep for Parents
    2022/09/01

In this episode, Jade gives some brilliant tips on how to prepare a binder for your child’s IEP for the upcoming school year. She advises you on what to include in this binder, as well as how often to update it. She stresses the importance of being organized for ease of transition into the school year. But, more importantly, this will help you to track your child’s progress as you reflect on the past year; Were modifications and accommodations met? Did those supports work? Do you provide different and effective supports at home that should be shared with your child’s team? Listen in, and let Jade guide you through this vital process.
