• Matthew 21:1-11- Embracing Our Need for Divine Help: Hosanna!
    2025/04/14

Mark unpacked for us the profound need for help that is intrinsic to our human experience, a need that is beautifully illustrated in the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. This event, often celebrated as Palm Sunday, is a powerful reminder of the people's cry for salvation, encapsulated in the word "Hosanna," which means "save us." This cry for help is not just a historical event but a timeless expression of our deepest needs and desires. We all seek help in various forms, whether it's for physical needs, emotional support, or spiritual guidance. The people of Jerusalem recognized Jesus as the fulfillment of their long-awaited hope, the King who came to save them, as prophesied in Psalm 118 and Zechariah.

  • Colossians 3: 3-17 - Living Transformed: Embracing Our Identity in Christ
    2025/04/07

Mike continued our journey through Colossians, and we arrived at a pivotal point where Paul addresses our conduct, attitudes, and motivations as Christians. The essence of this passage is not about striving harder or merely avoiding sin to please God. Instead, it is about understanding our identity in Christ and allowing that understanding to transform our lives. Paul reminds us that we have died to our old selves and are now hidden with Christ in God. This new identity calls us to put to death our earthly nature, characterised by immorality, impurity, and greed, and to rid ourselves of anger, malice, and deceit. These are remnants of our old life, and they no longer define us.

  • Colossians 2:16-3:1-2 - Focusing on Christ: Beyond Rules to Heart Transformation
    2025/03/31

Andy challenged us to consider that setting our minds on things above, rather than earthly matters, is a call to focus on the essence of our faith—Jesus Christ. The real issue isn't the rules themselves but our relationship with them. Rules can be beneficial, pointing us to Christ, but they can also be dangerous when they become the focus rather than the means to an end. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, warns against adding extra practices to the gospel, emphasizing that Jesus is sufficient for salvation.

  • Colossians 1:24-2:1-5 -Embracing the Cost and Joy of Following Christ
    2025/03/16

Shebu explored the profound and often challenging journey of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. The Apostle Paul's letter to the Colossians serves as a poignant reminder that following Christ is not merely about embracing the joys of salvation but also about understanding the cost that comes with it. Paul, who did not personally start the church in Colossae, writes with a deep love and commitment to the believers there, emphasizing that their lives, like his, are not their own but have been bought with a price. This price includes the willingness to suffer for the gospel's and fellow believers' sake.

  • Colossians 1:15-23 - Embracing the Supremacy and Sufficiency of Christ
    2025/03/12

Shebu Continues our walk through the Book of Colossians, challenging us to consider Jesus as Lord of Creation and the Lord of us.

In today's gathering, we delved into the profound truths found in Colossians 1:15-23, focusing on the supremacy and exclusivity of Jesus Christ. This passage, often referred to as the "Christ Hymn," serves as a powerful reminder of who Jesus is—His divine nature, His role in creation, and His authority over all things. In a world where many seek to add to or dilute the message of Christ, we are called to recognize and affirm that Jesus is not just a historical figure or a moral teacher, but the very image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. This means that everything was created by Him and for Him, and He holds all things together.
