    The Church is not a subculture or a building or a movement, but the making of a new humanity.


    Therefore, we must take core human questions seriously: What story am I in? Who am I? With whom do I belong? How do I change? Where do I make my life? What is my purpose? How do I love?


    These deep human questions have Biblical answers, but as embodied creatures, we need more than intellectual beliefs, we need embodied practices - lived ways of knowing.


    A Rule of Life is an ancient method for the good news of the Gospel to form and shape us - so that we might embody the missional presence of Christ in the world.\


    This workshop was recorded on February 22, 2025, at the Jubilee Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. The Jubilee Conference is hosted by the Coalition for Christian Outreach (ccojubilee.org).

    Any student of Scripture - whether a scholar, minister, or layperson - is like a craftsman with his or her tools. Have you ever walked into the workshop of a craftsman (an artist, carpenter, mechanic, or musician) and wondered, "what do all these tools or instruments do"? In this workshop, we will practice how to read Scripture with "tools" that engage the head, heart, and hands. We will engage historical and literary questions, and we will learn how to read the Bible as an act of worship, with the posture of faith seeking understanding. Learning how to study the Bible as the word of God will establish a great foundation for whatever vocation you may be called to.

    Quit something. Create margin. Be challenged toward unselfishness. Make space to care for others well. Say yes or no intentionally instead of out of guilt or exhaustion. Practice attentiveness.


    Does any of that tug at your heart? In this workshop we'll dig into the Biblical roots and calling of the discipline of restraint. More than just saying "no"; restraint is a counter-cultural and holistic discipline. Come explore how restraint is necessary to love others well (one of the core callings of Christianity) and cultivate meaningful community. Come grasp a vision for how restraint lived out in different areas of your life might help you make clearer choices with less anxiety. Come learn how doing less might actually help you do it better.
