Buxi Jagabandhu was born at Rorar Garh around 1769 and was the chief commander of the Army of the Khurda king Mukunda Dev. He was infuriated when the British took control over Khurda, Cuttack & Puri and restricted the people of the region from making salt. He gathered support from other Paik leaders and started a rebellion against the Bristishers in 1817, which was known as the Paika rebellion. On 9th April 1817, a large number of Paiks entered Puri under the leadership of Buxi Jagabandhu and set Government buildings and Courts on fire.In order to compel Buxi to surrender of, the British rulers in theyear 1819,imprisoned the two wives of Buxi Jagabandhu, his minor son, but he never gave up.
