  • Is the Film Industry Dead? Unraveling the Crisis
    2024/10/24

In this episode, I’m diving deep into the current crisis shaking the film world—why it feels like the industry is on life support, and how it’s impacting everyone involved.

I’ll take you through the major events that have led us to this point, starting with the devastating effects of COVID-19, which brought productions to a halt and shuttered movie theaters worldwide. Then, I’ll discuss the ripple effects of the recent writer and actor strikes, where negotiations over pay, AI protection, and working conditions have left productions stalled and jobs scarce.

We’ll also explore the rise of streaming platforms, which surged during the pandemic and have changed the way we consume films, for better and worse. With theaters struggling to lure audiences back, and independent filmmakers grappling with new challenges in distribution and production, the landscape of cinema has never been more uncertain.

Finally, I’ll turn the spotlight on the UK, where the situation is dire, with a majority of film and TV workers currently out of work and many leaving the industry altogether. The global dependency on U.S. productions means that when Hollywood suffers, the rest of the world feels the pain too.

If you’re wondering what’s next for the film industry and how to survive in these tough times, this episode is for you.
