We all know setting boundaries is important, but doing it in a way that actually sticks is easier said than done. In the third installment of my boundaries series, I break down the exact four-step process I use to set boundaries that others will respect.
First, we talk about coming at the conversation with the right energy. Are you feeling calm and grounded or frustrated and resentful? I explain why your emotional state matters. Next, we tackle what words to use and common phrasing mistakes to avoid. I share examples of effective boundary-setting language.
Then it’s time to look at timing - why when you initiate the boundary chat can sabotage or solidify the outcome. Finally, we discuss the importance of reasonable expectations. What’s achievable from the other person? How can you best set yourself (and them) up for success?
If you struggle with boundary-setting (and let’s be real, who doesn’t?), this step-by-step guide will help you become more confident in expressing your needs while preserving relationships. Tune in to learn the tangible strategies that can completely change your ability to set healthy boundaries.
