She was surrounded by dysfunction, abuse, and addiction. She was also surrounded by relatives she didn’t find out were relatives until she dove into her genealogy. Mimi talks about her upbringing and her father’s life-long belief that he was Sicilian and how it shaped him and their family. He was, as it turns out, Irish. Satori Shakoor is a dynamic storyteller, multi-disciplinary artist, and accomplished social entrepreneur, recognized as a 2017 Kresge Literary Arts Fellow. Her career began with acclaim as a background singer and recording artist, touring with George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic as one of the iconic Brides of Funkenstein. She later broadened her artistic pursuits, becoming an actor, comedienne, and television comedy writer.

As a founding member and catalyst for the award-winning Obsidian Theatre Company in Toronto, Satori helped establish Canada’s leading culturally diverse theatre company in 1999. Her journey into storytelling began in 2011, where she quickly rose as a Moth Mainstage storyteller and host, captivating audiences on global stages, as well as on PBS, NPR, and acclaimed podcasts. Satori is the host for Detroit Performs Live for Detroit PBS. In 2024, she had the honor to emcee the Kresge Centennial Event.

Donna Marks is an educator, licensed psychotherapist, and addictions counselor in Palm Beach, Florida. She has worked with over 6,000 clients. Donna’s struggle with addiction brought her to a worldwide search for healing. She became licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in 1987. In 1989, she earned a Doctorate Degree in Adult Education and then became Certified in Addictions, Gestalt Therapy, Psychoanalysis, Hypnosis, and Sex Therapy. Donna developed an award-winning addiction training program at Palm Beach Community College. She co-owns an outpatient treatment program and serves as a consultant to treatment centers.

For 30 years, she has taught A Course in Miracles.
Donna is the author of three books: Learn, Grow, Forgive: A Path to Spiritual Success, and the multi-award-winning title Exit the Maze: One Addiction, One Cause, One Cure, and The Healing Moment: Seven Paths that Turn Messes into Miracles.
Donna is a public speaker and has shared her methods with hundreds of thousands of listeners on podcasts and radio shows.
