In this week's sports news, we prepared for the Eagles' clash with the Commanders in the NFC Championship, recapped Ohio State's win in the College Football National Championship, highlighted a wild finish for Methacton boys basketball, and were familiarized with the National Baseball Hall of Fame's class of 2025 that was announced this week.

In our takeaway portion today, we dive deeper into the faith of the Ohio State and Notre Dame football teams and how they used this season and their playoff runs to glorify God not just in word, but in deed as well. They gave the national media no choice to acknowledge the outspoken glorification of God from both sides.

In our takeaway portion, we’re reminded by conversations with Texas QB Quinn Ewers and Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard to have our identities rooted in Christ so that we wouldn’t be influenced by what the world says about us, and so that we would walk in step with God’s will.

  • Beyond The Scoreboard (24:26) ~ The Power of His Word
    2025/01/04

In this week’s sports news we talk about where the Sixers and Flyers stand heading into 2025, and celebrate the NFC East Champion Eagles as they look ahead to the playoffs! Additionally, we recap the quarterfinal action of the college football playoffs, including Penn State’s big win over Boise State.

In our takeaway portion, we’re inspired by Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson and how he helped lead players like Ahmed Hassanein to the Lord through his coaching and leadership. This example leads us into a conversation on evangelism, and we’re reminded not to fall into the trap of trying to change people’s hearts on our own - Christ alone has the power to save - we just need to do our part by sharing the Good News with others and come alongside others with love, humility, and a reverence for God.

  • Beyond The Scoreboard (43:13) ~ Biblically Controlling Our Anger
    2024/12/14

    Send us a text

In this week's sports news we talked about MLB free agency and the historic contract of Juan Soto, as well as the latest in high school, college, and NFL football.

We also had a conversation with Zack Gugenheim about college football as we recapped the Penn State vs. Oregon Big 10 Championship game, and looked ahead at the upcoming playoffs.

In discussing college football, we also talked more about the idea of controlling emotions, particularly anger, especially in the context of competitive environments, as we continued our discussion from last week about the several postgame fights in college football a few weeks ago. James and Paul give us a practical look at how we as Christians ought to view and respond to angry emotions when they arise.

  • Beyond The Scoreboard (17:12) ~ God's Way > World's Way
    2024/12/07

In this week's sports news we discuss the Eagles and Steelers and prepare for Penn State football's appearance in the Big 10 Championship against Oregon. In this week's takeaway, we try to make sense of the numerous fights and brawls in last week's "rivalry week" in college football - especially the skirmish between Ohio State and Michigan.

Through examining what happened during those fights, and how a select few players chose to take a knee and pray instead, we see how pride played a role in the fights, and how God has called us to instead be humble and set apart from the world.
