Aizlewood Speaks

著者: mrpkb
  • サマリー

  • Aizlewood Speaks is a podcast about the commercialisation of public services and how to resist it. We cover topics such as co-ops, mutuals and social enterprises delivering public services and why it doesn’t work as suggested by the proponents; social finance and payment by results; examples of failure and what a future pro-commercialisation agenda looks like. We take you on a journey into the murky world of how profit is extracted from our services. We may even interview a guest or two. We’re grateful for funding assistance to Lipman Miliband and Amiel Melburn Foundations who have made these podcasts possible. Where did Aizlewood Speaks come from? The Podcast came out of a think tank called the Aizlewood Group. That Group had fulfilled its remit and is now going online via podcasting to reach an even bigger audience. Dr Les Huckfield is our resident academic who has served as an MP and MEP for many years. With him is Paul Bell, who’s a Labour councillor and also a UNISON National Officer who leads on the anti-privatisation work for the Local Government Service Group or area. What is our focus? Protecting public services from privatisation, marketisation and commodification. What future episodes will look like? Our first episode will be on the history of community responses and defence against commercialisation in our public services. Who should you listen? The podcasts are designed for trade union activists, academics, students and interested citizens.
