Air New Zealand Flight 901, A McDonnell-Douglas DC 10 departed from Auckland at 8:17 am on a sightseeing trip to Antarctica with 257 people on board. While flying through Antarctica, the crew spotted a gap in the clouds and informed McMurdo ATC that they were decending to 2,000 feet to give the passengers a better look at the incredible landscape but were never heard from again.
