  • Interview with Ms. Alcorn State Ariel Knott
    2025/03/18

Ariel Symone Knott, a second-generation Alcornite, stands as a shining example of determination and resilience. Currently a rising Senior at Alcorn State University, Ariel is majoring in Human Development and Family Science, driven by a passion for understanding and improving the dynamics of familial relationships. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Ariel is the youngest of four children born to Sanford and Trina Knott, instilled with a strong sense of determination and ambition from an early age. Introduced to competitive sports at just five years old, Ariel's athletic journey began with soccer, where her natural talent quickly earned her recognition and numerous accolades. Remarkably, she thrived as the sole female participant in an all-boys competitive league at the age of eleven, earning her the affectionate nickname "The Weaver." Ariel's athletic prowess extended beyond soccer, as she captained her basketball team at Park Place Christian Academy and excelled in track and field, earning medals at the State games. Today, she continues to embrace competition, demonstrating her skills in a diverse range of activities including bowling, corn hole, pool, and golf. However, Ariel's journey has not been without challenges. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 14 years old, she faced adversity head-on, making necessary lifestyle adjustments to pursue her passions and dreams. Her resilience and determination have not only enabled her to overcome obstacles but also serve as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges. A devout Christian, Ariel's faith has been a guiding force throughout her life, shaping her actions and interactions with others. Raised in a household that emphasized the values of service and sacrifice, she embodies these principles in her everyday life, seeking to make a positive impact in her community and beyond. In addition to her athletic pursuits and faith, Ariel possesses a passion for culinary arts, finding joy and fulfillment in creating and sharing delicious meals with others. Whether it's whipping up homemade lemon drop cookies or preparing scrumptious shrimp and grits, Ariel's culinary talents are as impressive as they are delightful. Looking to the future, Ariel is poised to carve her own path as an entrepreneur, drawing inspiration from her family's history of business ventures. Already demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit through ventures in kitchenware and food sales while working as a pharmacy technician, Ariel is committed to leaving her mark in both the business and athletic realms. Wherever her journey may lead, Ariel Symone Knott is sure to make waves, leaving a lasting impact with her unwavering determination, boundless ambition, and infectious zest for life.

  • Interview with University of Washington Commit Nina Cain
    2025/01/13

Nina Cain can do a little bit of everything with a basketball, and it is her versatility and drive that has made the McClatchy High School Senior forward a national recruit. It’s also a paramount reason why she is The Bee’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, an honor that goes to a student-athlete who best exemplifies effort, sportsmanship and results. The 6-foot-1 Cain, who plays guard, forward and center, averaged 23.4 points and 9.6 rebounds to help the Metro League champions stage a spirited run in the playoffs to finish the season 26-6. Cain missed three of her team’s losses due to concussion protocol, and McClatchy coaches had to hide her jersey and lock the gym doors so she wouldn’t try to sneak in some action. And her best numbers? Her 4.5 grade-point average.
