  • How Does Network Slicing Enable Multiple Services to Function Seamlessly?
    2024/10/20

    Episode 9: Network Slicing

Network slicing is a key feature of 5G that allows for the creation of multiple virtual networks within a single physical 5G infrastructure, each customised for specific use cases. This flexibility makes 5G adaptable to different industries and applications.

Network Slicing refers to the selection and allocation of network resources to suit the requirements of a specific service.

For instance, an eMBB user is likely to require high throughputs so that user should be allocated network resources which support high throughputs. In contrast, a URLLC user is likely to require low latency so that user should be allocated network resources which support low latency. Lastly, Massive IoT (mMTC) caters to smart cities with numerous connected devices.

Learn how these slices cater to specific use cases, from autonomous cars to smart city sensors, without compromising speed, latency, or reliability.

But how does it all work technically? We break down into the key components like gNodeB, Central Unit, and Distributed Unit, and explore how the E1 and F1 interfaces facilitate multiple slices.

Additionally, we examine the role of PDU sessions and the significance of Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (NSSAI) in identifying and connecting to the right network slice.

  • How Massive MIMO Unlock the Power of 5G?
    2024/09/15

    Episode 7:
In this episode of 5G Tech Talk, we delve into the world of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology and its pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of 5G networks. We start with SU-MIMO, where users are equipped with multiple antennas, allowing for optimal performance under favorable radio conditions. When facing challenging radio environments, we explore how leveraging diversity gain—by transmitting a single stream instead of multiple—improves signal reliability.

We then dive into MU-MIMO, where base stations with multiple antennas can simultaneously support multiple users, even when each user device has only one or two antennas. Finally, we discuss Massive MIMO, the powerhouse behind 5G. With base stations typically equipped with 64 to 256 antennas, Massive MIMO allows for the simultaneous support of hundreds of devices, revolutionizing network capacity, efficiency, and performance.

Tune in to discover how these advanced MIMO technologies are shaping the future of 5G connectivity.
