In this Episode I interview, Whapio Diane Bartlett. For over 40 years, Whapio has been a pioneer in the world of midwifery and birthkeeping, redefining how we understand and approach birth since 1985. As an Elder Midwife, educator, and mentor, Whapio has devoted her life to raising the consciousness of birth and transforming how families, caregivers, and communities honor this sacred process. She is one of my most cherished mentors, in this conversation we dive into the realms of what Whapio refers to as Quantum Birth, and some of her own journey of entering midwifery and becoming a mother herself. Whapio speaks to the naturally psychedelic qualities of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, the expanded state of being that this time brings, the brainwave shifts, and the consciousness altering journey. In 2001, Whapio founded The Matrona, an organization dedicated to providing affordable, accessible midwifery education to aspiring doulas, midwives and birthkeepers around the world. Through programs such as the Holistic Doula Training, The Illuminated Wise Woman, and the Birthkeepers Midwifery Cohort, Whapio has created a space for transformative learning that honors the art and science of birth while weaving in the essential elements of consciousness, spirituality, and wisdomkeeping.

Whapio speaks passionately about the role of consciousness in caregiving and birth, believing it to be the missing element that could revolutionize maternal care and return the power of birth to families. As she often says, “The way we give birth is a mirror of the emotional and spiritual maturity on this planet. If we prioritize consciousness in birth, we will transform not only the experience of birth but the very fabric of how we live and relate to each other.”

The Birthkeepers Midwifery Cohort, starting February 1st, is a year-long journey of discovery and transformation. This program consists of 10 comprehensive modules that guide participants through all aspects of midwifery, from pregnancy to postpartum. With a focus on the four pillars of learning: Anatomy and Physiology, Quantum Midwifery in Practice, Homeopathy and Wisdomkeeping—this program equips birthkeepers with both the knowledge and the intuitive skills to elevate their practice.
