TV history was made in 1951 when the first episode of I Love Lucy aired on CBS starring a fiery red head Irish actress named Lucille Ball and her real life husband, Cuban American band leader Desi Arnaz as New York City apartment dwellers Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. The show would air 6 years, making #1 in ratings 4 of those years, and breaking single episode viewer ratings twice- once when Lucy announced she was pregnant, and again when she went to the hospital to have their baby. Today we remember the show, the cast, the techniques and inventions that DesiLu Productions gave to the television industry., and most of all the millions of laughs the Lucille Ball and company gave and still give to viewers.

On July 4th, 1910. in Reno, Nevada, a fight for the Heavyweight Championship of the World took place between Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries. Jack Johnson was a black man- the first black man to hold the heavyweight title in boxing, which he had won two years before. His lifestyle was, by 1910 standards, flagrant- he was frequently seen acting indecently in the company of white blond prostitutes, he drank and gambled to excess, and he liked fast sports cars. In the past two years a number of white boxers had tried him and all of them had lost. In 1909, white boxing fans turned toward a retired heavyweight champion named James L. Finally! The incredible two part story beginning with the journey of "The Three Marys"- Mary Magdalene, Mary Cleopas, and Mary Salome- and their group of believers in a rudderless boat with no sails as they are cast adrift in the Mediterranean Sea after being exiled from Judea by enemies of Christ after his crucifixion. They survive to land on the coast of France and begin to spread the word of Christ in its most basic form.

Part Two, traces the legends that have sprung up all over Southern France- legends that Mary brought with her The Holy Grail, stories of the Cathars- a large group of followers that made their home and fortress in the foothills of the Pyrenees, rejected Catholicism, and were nearly wiped out by Catholic forces bent upon their destruction, the story of Otto Rahm, the Nazi archeologist who combed the Cathar ruins for the Holy Grail, and the stories of the other exiled passengers on that boat, including Lazarus, Mary Salome, Mary Cleopas, Sidonius, Joseph of Aramathia, and Maximinus- all who would preach the gospel of Jesus to the pagan worshippers that lived under the shadow of Roman occupation.

In 1929 an Australian named Harold Bell Lassiter announced that he had found a fabulously rich gold deposit in the Northwest Territory years ago and that he needed the cash to raise an expedition to go after it. At first, he had no takers, but as the depression took hold and his story spread the money appeared and a group of experts gathered for a 1931 expedition. It wasn't long before Lasseter's story began to crumble, he had no samples and no map and very vague recollections- and the party ended up abandoning him as well as the project. He kept on, and some sources say he found the gold "reef" before his untimely death. There are still many people searching for that deposit, said to be above ground in quartz rock strata 7 feet wide and 10 feet thick. Was he a charlatan- a cheat? a liar? Or was there some truth to his story? Time will tell.
