December 16th, 2022 Cultivation of Man 002 - Starting a Profitable Farm from Scratch - The Story of Spur Hollow Farm This episode of Cultivation of Man is focused on our business venture, Spur Hollow Farm. After graduating from Grove City College with a Mechanical Engineering degree, I decided to venture into regenerative agriculture in the form of small scale vegetable market gardening. In one year, we created a 1/2 acre vegetable farm that produced $50,000 worth of revenue in our first season! Listen in to hear our story, and to learn about our philosophy of farming, or methods and strategies for farming and selling food, and the importance of a vibrant local economy for food security. The inspirations for our farming career stem from men like Greg Judy, Joel Salatin, Eliot Coleman, and JM Fortier. These men have taught us the importance of growing food in healthy and robust soil to produce a high quality food product that nourishes the body. Our farm business is one of much trial and error, as we have very little experience growing food let alone farming.
