At Christ's first coming, more than two thousand years ago, God's people were expecting a Messiah who would conquer the Romans and make Israel a great nation. They believed this because they had misinterpreted the Old Testament prophecies. When Jesus arrived, He was hardly the King whom they were expecting, and the majority rejected Him.
