あらすじ・解説
For anyone who lived through the 1980s AIDS crisis, watching friends dying, like the apocalypse had arrived, it seems unthinkable that today's students don't know about this recent history. December 1 was World AIDS Day. Susie starts off today's show with a discussion about why the younger generation doesn't know about the real trauma of HIV/AIDS. She reads from an article by a college professor who explains that his students think that AIDS happens to "others", who they then marginalize and write off. Wrong! The politics and history of the epidemic is still affecting us today.
Then, it's "What's New on Audible". Susie has a queer coming-of-age book to recommend. Dryland by Sarah Jaffe, narrated by Carly Robins, takes place in 1992 in Portland, Oregon. Julie, a young teenager, is unexcited about life until she meets the swim team captain, who is trying to recruit her. It's a dare and a flirtation with many twists and family intrigues.
