He points out what and why the various protestant scholars stress certain passages and not others and shows how these differ from the numerous Catholic approaches. He even brings out how the various religious orders, Dominican, Franciscan, and Jesuits will approach the scripture from different angles determined in part by their own spiritualities and charisms. In developing his presentation, Rev. Viviano gives his insights into the history of the debates about the Gospel of Matthew within the contexts of the broader movements in the Church as a whole. In doing this he present a rich wellspring of knowledge and understanding that ultimately gives the listener a sense of the sweeping historical tides that have swept biblical studies during the past 50 years.
